The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has recently released updated guidelines for the tracking and disposal of hazardous waste. These changes aim to enhance transparency and ensure that industrial organizations are held accountable for their environmental footprint.
The Move Toward Digital Tracking
One of the most significant changes is the mandatory implementation of the Manifest System through digital portals. No longer can facilities rely on paper records for the movement of hazardous waste from generation sites to TSDF (Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities).
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
EPR regimes are being expanded to include more categories of hazardous materials. Organizations must now account for the end-of-life management of products that contain hazardous components, or face severe 'Environmental Compensation' penalties.
